Del Close Marathon 2010

Dumpster Tequila just performed, at the Del Close Marathon(DCM) at the Upright Citizen's Brigade Theatre in NYC. We were so happy to be performing at this amazing improv festival which drew over 150 teams on three stages for the 3 day festival run.

Our show was named by The Apiary as one of the show's to see on their DCM cheat sheet.

We'd like to thank the people at UCB Theatre for such a great festival and for such a fun time!

Boston Buzz

We got a nice write up on the Around Town blog for the Edgewood Apartments in the Boston Area.

There’s nothing like a night of GOOD improv! And I must emphasize good because I’ve been out (on a date at that) for a night of improv and it was any and everything but good. There was a lot of trying, but no actual results. I wanted to leave, not because it was just bad but because I felt SO bad for them. But, that’s enough negativity, let’s talk about an improv group that’s actually worth your time!

Dumpster Tequila Musical Improv is a long-form musical improv group based out of New York City, but travel across the country performing at local venues and they will be in Boston this Saturday, May 29th at 11:30 (because that’s when the best improv comes out). So come out to ImprovBoston and watch Dumpster Tequila create a completely improvised musical based off one audience suggestion! It’s worth it.

DCM 11 Review(July 09)

We just received our first review from The Improvisation Newsletter from our performance at the 11th annual Del Close marathon.

Here’s the review below

DUMPSTER TEQUILA
By Israel Savage

It took a little while to get the piano on the stage. Not the group’s fault. It’s all part of the charm of this type of venue and reminds you that it’s all improvised. And, luckily no one’s legs were crushed in the piano moving process. Dumpster Tequilla is comprised of 6 performers and a pianist. The performers brought to the stage differing levels of vocal talents and the group was strongest when harmonizing together. The suggestion from the audience was, “corn syrup.” As the story developed we followed a town/world/society into an industrial downward spiral as everything and everyone was taken over by a company that made just about everything from corn. A pair of women who made homemade cakes until everyone preferred the sterility of manufactured corn cakes were two of the characters that emerged. There was a haunting song in a cornfield as one character realized the children of humanity will become, “children of the corn.”  There were a couple of chilling lines that drove the theme home, like,  ”Here on the factory floor we minimize humanity.” The group supported each other well. In fact, there were moments during the ensemble numbers that the improvised lyrics were so poignant and the group was so in sync that I got chills. This group put on a great show and left me “thinking.” Didn’t expect that from a half hour improvised musical.

SketchProv 2009 Review

For those of you who don't know we performed in The PIT's SketchProv 2009, we made it all the way to the third round and lost out to the amazing improv group Swords(who ended up winning the whole thing). Here's a nice review of the original musical that we wrote for the Sketch Portion of the event.

Haunted Old Navy from ImprovisationNews.com

Group: Dumpster Tequila

Reviewer: Carmen

Show Type: Sketch

This was a good musical theatre group: great singing; fabulous underscoring from the pianist and frankly, just lots of fun to watch, even though things didn’t always connect. “Old Navy Sales” was one of the most enjoyable pre-written sketches. An employee who dreams of being a fashion designer, strongly feels that there is something supernatural going on within the store. Actually, there are ghosts in the store, but only one employee can see them. The ghosts made a grand entrance, wearing white sheets, dancing hip-hop and singing rap, followed by the employee singing the clever (but overly repetitious) song, “I’m a medium, I’m a medium, I’m a medium - not a small, extra small or a large.”(Lovely voice!!)
